Had 831 elected representatives
Each state was allowed to choose its own voting system
Problems with the elected assembly:
poor were exlcuded from voting
all-male and well-off professionals
'the professors' parliament' - Jacob Grimm and other Gottingen 7 professors were included
1st president - a Burschenshaften member/lawyer

mostly liberal in politics
parliament wanted a strong central govt
increased authority over german states in comparison w the old bund
Provisional Central Power - June 1848
controlled by liberal Austrian price, the Archduke Johann
was to govern until permanent constitution was formed
Fundamental Rights approved in Dec:
50 were approved
equality before the law
freedom of the press
freedom from arrest without warrant
constitution was still not agreed upon
