Team
A team is defined as a small number of people with complementary skills who are committed to a common purpose, a set of performance goals, and an a approach for which they hold themselves mutually accountable.
Group
A work group is a collection of people working in the same area or who are placed together to complete a task.
TYPES OF GROUPS AND
TEAMS
Formal Group
It concentrates more on the performance of jobs.
People are placed in hierarchy and their status determined accordingly
It is designed by top management to achieve organizational goals.
Informal Group
It is a natural outcome at the workplace, which is not designed and planned.
The organization is coordinated by group norms, not by the norms of the formal organization.
This group association is not specified in the blueprint of the formal organization.
