Chemistry
Analyze and interpret data on the properties of the substances before and after the substances interact to determine if a chemical reaction has occurred.
Chemical Property- Characteristics that can only be determined afterm, or when a chemical reaction has happened to the substance.
-
Reactivity (Does it react in certain things, like water)
-
Physical Change- A change in which the identity, or the substance, does NOT change

Physical Property- Characteristics that can be used to describe the appearance of matter. This can be determined without chemical identity of the substance.

Use a model to explain that atoms are rearranged during a chemical reaction to form new substances with new properties. Explain that the atoms are all present in the products and thus the total number of atoms is conserved.
Explain that the atoms present in the reactants are all present in the products and thus the total number of atoms in conserved.
Because of The Law of Conservation of Mass, it tells us that the atoms going into the chemical reaction must come out. This means that the matter can't be destroyed
Ex. When A Methane (CH4) and 2 Oxygen (2O2) molecules combines it creates a Carbon Dioxide (CO2) molecule and 2 Water (2H2O) Molecules. The same amount of atoms that were on one side of the equation i equal to the otherside.
-
The model shows us that Carbon and Oxygen combine to create Carbon Dioxide. Once the carbon and the oxygen go through the reaction it creates the carbon dioxide, showing that it's a balanced equation. Since the reactants were one carbon atom and two oxygen atoms, and the product was carbon dioxide, which has two oxygen and one carbon atom, it tells us that the same amount of atoms that went in came out.
