EFFECTIVE MANAGEMENT OF PEER-ON-PEER CONFLICT IN PRIMARY SCHOOL SETTINGS.
PEER MEDIATION
PEER MEDIATION SCHEME
'Peer mediation is a process by which children and young people themselves help their peers resolve conflict in a constructive non-violent way.' (PMD, n.d.).
RESTORATIVE APPROACH (RA)
SCHOOL POLICY - PASTORAL CARE IN EDUCATION
SCHEMES SUCH AS FOREST SCHOOLS PUT IN PLACE TO ENCOURAGE TEAM WORK. CHILDREN NAVIGATE THROUGH CHALLENGES FACED AS A TEAM.
'Restorative practice originated many years ago in criminal justice and education and has now been adopted as a collaborative practice framework by many local authorities in England.' (PDSP, 2019:3).
'With restorative practice, there is a deliberate shift towards collaborative approaches that:
value the intrinsic worth of the individual
provide opportunities for individuals to talk about and hear how people are affected by a problem incident or behaviour, to repair and strengthen families and communities.' (PDSP, 2019:3).
BEHAVIOUR TRIANGLE FOR FUTURE BEHAVIOUR
FROM RESTORATIVE PRACTICE "People are happier, more cooperative and productive, and more likely to make positive changes when those in positions of authority do things with them, rather than to them or for them.
SOCIAL DISCIPLINE WINDOW
'It describes four basic approaches to maintaining social norms and behavioural boundaries. The four are represented as different combinations of high or low control and high or low support' (Wachtel, 2016:3).
PEER-ON-PEER ABUSE (SAFEGUARDING)
'Peer-on-peer abuse is any form of physical, sexual, emotional and financial abuse, and coercive control exercised between children, and within children's relationships ... friendships, and wider peer associations.' (Farrer & Co, 2019)
'The Education (Independent School Standards) Regulations 2014 and Section 89 of the Education and Inspections Act 2006 both require schools and education settings to prevent bullying amongst pupils through the implementation of an effective anti-bullying policy.' (The Education People, n.d.)
