Maslows hierchy of needs
created a pyramid to show what people need to what people want, what people need are at the bottom (psychological needs) and what people desire most is at the top (self actualisation). you must go in that order

this comes through age (typically) and what you have accomplished. for example, babies and young children will all look for psychological needs, while an adult with a family will already have that and will be reaching selfactulisation
some people may deviate from this e.g. an old man may still be looking for the psychological needs like food and water because he is homeless

the idea of the hierarchy and trying to reach self actualisation is very aimed towards individualistic cultures. Collective cultures tendencies emphasis more the needs for group and interdepencedence
