strengths
Real world application
brought a new way of treating people through dream analysis (looks at the uncious mind, talks about repressed emotions
elemantory powers
idea that we can explain humans behaviour, also looks into personality development and other ways of developing psychological disorders
weaknesses
no scientific evidence
none of Freuds findings can be tested, meaning the idea that we have psychosexual stages, and the 3 parts of the personality could be false. no standardised procedures can be used to back up his claims
real world applications
with treatment, it may be a bad idea for someone who has mental health issues to bring back memories form their past (e.g. child trauma) as this may cause them to be worse. e.g. bad for schizophrenics as they already have a loose grip on reality
