In most situations humans are willing to go a long way to do what they are told to do. Humans often just do what they are told without considering the morality of their behavior.
For example, the Milgram Experiment at Yale.
There was one learner and one teacher. If the learner got the wrong answer they were electrically shocked by the teacher by exceedingly high current.
The point of the experiment was to test how far the teachers will go causing paint to students while following orders.
65% of teachers went all the way and administered the highest level of electric shock and 100% went up to 300V
