It is stressful to see someone you love in the position where they have an unhealthy relationship with substances and can put you on edge. Studies also show that people who abuse substances are also more likely to be the perpetrator of violent crimes.
- - - - Male privilege reinforces the fear women face regarding domestic violence. It restricts some of the rights of the women and makes it more difficult to remove herself from the situation. When female victims report their abuser, they are often not believed. Abusers are then able to walk free with little to no consequences, Then the women will be left with even more fear and likely an angrier abuser. When other victims see this, it will make them scared to speak out and creates a cycle of silence.
        
        Solution: Encouraging victims to speak out
        
        If victims of domestic violence are helped and encouraged, they will be more likely to feel comfortable and safe speaking out. One way to help do this is to volunteer with organizations that help victims of domestic violence. Non-profits like the YWCA help victims of domestic violence with counseling, housing, medical, and legal help. Punishing perpetrators of domestic violence is another way to help victims speak out.

        Famous people like athletes and celebrities receive a lot of attention when in the spotlight due to controversy. Punishing those people for their wrong doings is very valuable because it reaches a larger audience than a case between two average people.

        Solution: Financial help for victims
        
        There are many organizations with the focus of helping people who are experiencing homelessness with shelter and food. One way to help is by donating to organizations. Donating money, food, hygiene products, etc is a great way to help. Another way is by volunteering directly with these organizations. Even the smallest gesture could have a significant impact on someone's life.
