INTERNET PROTOCOL ADDRESS
(IP ADDRESS)
IP Address is a sequence of numbers that uniquely identifies the location of each computer or device connected to the internet or any other network
the internet uses
TWO VERSION
of IP addressing schemes:
IPv4
STRUCTURE:
-each IPv4 address is made up of four groups of numbers, that range from 0 t0 255,separated by a period.
-uses 32-bit address scheme
-has two parts which is the network part(first three numbers) and the machine part(last number)
-dotted decimal notation
EXAMPLES:
-101.100.111.255
-72.14.207.99
due to the growth of devices accessing the internet, the original IPv4 addresses began decreasing in availability and the solution is for IPv6 to accommodate this increased demand by providing a much larger address space, along with improved traffic routing and better security
IPv6
STRUCTURE:
-each IPv6 address represented as eight groups of four hexadecimal digits, separated by colons(:)
-uses 128-bit address scheme
-hexadecimal notation
EXAMPLES:
-2001:0db8:0a0b:12f0:0000:0000:0000:0001
-2001:db8;a0b:12f0::1(compressed format)
BENEFITS OF IPv6
-larger space provide
-better security
-better support for real time
-includes plug and play
-better optimization
