(Earthquakes) - Coggle Diagram
Earthquakes
Occurs when there is plate movement along plate boundaries.
Due to the friction between the moving plates , plate movements cause the slow build-up stress on the rocks found on either side of the fault. Pressure builds up in the plates and energy is stored in the earth’s crust.
When the rocks can no longer contain the pressure, energy is released. Energy is released in the form of seismic wave. Seismic waves radiate out from a point of sudden ecnergy release called the focus.

This will cause the crust to have sudden slip many meters, causing an earthquake. After an earthquake event, the stress from the ground within the earth’s crust may cause many smaller earthquakes called aftershocks to occur along the fault line.
