10.1 Defining Aggression
-
Emotional or impulsive aggression- aggression that occurs with only a small amount or forethought or intent and that is determined primarily by impulsive emotions
Bender displays impulsive aggression numerous times throughout the movie. One instance is when Andy doesn't believe that he has an abusive home environment. This causes him to quickly lash out and display aggressive behaviors.
-
Physical aggression- aggression that involves harming others physically (hitting, kicking, stabbing, shooting)
Although Bender does not actually physically harm anyone in the movie, he threatens Andy with physical harm. After their dispute, he tells Andy that if he doesn't stop, he's going to have to kill him as he pulls out his pocket knife.
Non-physical aggression- aggression that does not involve physical harm (yelling, screaming, swearing, and name calling)
Bender displays non-physical aggression a number of times throughout the movie. He yells at his teacher and his peers, calls his peers "assholes" and "dweebs," and curses when he is angered or frustrated.
