Affective aggression
when the main goal is to harm the other person by the sake of doing so, behavior fueled by emotions
revenge
In Beth's case, aggression is against her old self, because by improving herself and being better everyday she is better
Beth's story doesn't revolve around revenge, but on her individual battles. The only revenge Beth wants is against Vorgov's because he won in their first chess game. Despite that, Beth's actions revolve around herself, not the other person
Helping
Humans help because doing so boosts our self esteem, it makes others like us more and increases social acceptance
Beth doesn't know how to empathize, as she has a hard time understanding human emotions, whether from others of from herself
As she doesn't empathize and is self-focused, the norm of reciprocity, which states that if you help someone, that person will help you back in the future, she does not do it if the benefit is not clear or inmediate
Egoism
opposite to an altruistic behavior, put yourself and your wellbeing first and don't consider the other person
Beth behaviors lacks altruism, her chess prodigy and genius condition make her be less aware about her environment and doesn't think about others, nor think she is doing it wrong
Beth is an egoist person. Through her teenage years she was highly egoist, but in her early twenties, when she becomes more mature, she also becomes less egoist and knows that what she does affect others
Through the whole series, Beth does not help anyone out of altruistic or empathic behaviors
