What are the TBL techniques? (what type of classroom activities you can assign to students)
The Pre-Task
๐ Introduce the task to the students and get them excited for the task.
๐ Once they're engaged, the teacher should set their expectations for the task so that the โless motivated students don't do the bare minimum.
๐ To do this, the teacher could show the students an example of the completed task or model it.
๐If the teacher want to differentiate their students, then now is a good time to hand out support materials, or scaffold the task appropriately. Group them and give instructions.
๐ Summary : the focus of the stage is to engage the learners, set expectations and give instructions
The Task
๐ Put students in small groups or pairs.
๐ The teacher won't join the task but they will be monitoring and giving hints only if students get really stuck.
๐ For task design, there are several ways to go about designing it, but usually it should involve a โgapโ of some sort.
๐ Summary : The focus of this stage is fluency โ using the language to communicate without falling into L1 unless really needed.
A Review
๐ Once the learners have completed the task and have something to show, then itโs time for a review.
Peer reviews are preferable, or if during your monitoring you see an error common to many, a teacher-led delayed correction is also very useful.
