Heat - Coggle Diagram
Heat
Effects of heat on a material
it can increae
it can cause a material to expand
it can change the state of substance
expansion and contraction of materials
solids expand when heated and contract when cooled
liquids expand when heated and contract when cooled
gases expand when heated and contract when cooled
latent heat
latent heat is the energy needed to change the state of a substance without charging its temperature
ice cubes absorb a lot of latent heat from a drink when they change from a solid to a liquid
What is Heat?
Heat is a form of energy
It is measured in joules
movements of heat energy
There are 3 main methods of heat transfer
Conduction
conduction is the movement of heat through a substance
without any overall movement of substance itself
Convection
convection is the movement of heat energy through liquids and gases due to the motion of the substance itself
Radiation
the hotter an object is, the more it radiates
dull black surfaces are good emitters or radiators then shiny ones
the greater the surface area and temperature of the object, the faster is the rate of heat transfer from it
