ASSURE MODEL
:pen:
An explanatory video…
ASSURE Model is a six-step instructional systems design that can be used as a guide to plan lessons, design activities and conduct instructions, and use media and technology effectively. It is attributed to Sharon E. Smaldino, Deborah L. Lowther and Clif Mims.
The first aim is to identify learners. They can be students, course attendees, teacher trainees, etc.
GENERAL CHARATERISTICS
are highly important for cgoosing media, instructional methods and desinging activities.
-
Gender (10 female and 13 male) There can be trans or non-binary learners so it is important to be sensitive about gender topics

-
LEARNING STYLES
This category includes how learners approach, percieve, interact, and respond to information and enviroment.
-
-
MOTIVATIONAL FACTORS
Psychological factors such as emotions affect what and how long learners pay attention to the activities and how much effort they are going to invest in learning.
Intrinsic motivators- are formed by the experience itself. Learners need to be active participants of the process. Emotions like curiosity can be agood motivator. (playing video story games while learning)
Extrinsic motivators- are formed by factors not directly associated to tasks and experience itself, such as grades and approval. (clapping to praise)
-
STATE OBJECTIVES
The second step is determination of what learners should get at the end of the lesson. It should not be confused by how learners achieve the instruction. While stating the learning outcomes, using words like"observe, question, verbilize, interpret" should be used instead of "know, understand".
-
BEHAVIOUR
The most cruical part of objective is portraying what knowledge/skills/attitudes are going to be developed or changed after instruction. ( Students will be able to identify and pronounce body parts)
CONDITIONS
Stating conditions such as setting and tools that are going to be used during instruction (Students will be given worksheets)
DEGREE
Stating the degree of accuracy of outcome of learners' and how much time should it take for learners to complete the task (15 minutes to complete matching worksheet activity. Students will be able to identify body parts with %90 accuracy)
-
SELECT METHODS, MEDIA, AND MATERIALS
Third step demands planning the use of media and technology for systematically selecting methods, media and materials.
CHOOSING A METHOD
There are no superior methods. Instructor should choose the most suitable method for learners (TPR, Group work, Qusetion&Answer)
CHOOSING A MEDIA FORMAT
Determining physical form of knowladge that will be presented. It can be textual (whiteboard), video (projected screen). (Musical video will be played about body parts.)

-
EVALUATE and REVISE
Evaluation should be made before, during, and after instruction. It is highly important to reflect upon outcomes to determine if the first five section of ASSURE were effectively done.
