Remote Access Solution in Windows Server Environment
Virtual Private Network (VPN)
Site to site
enables organization to connect two separate network over the internet.
Remote Access
connects remote users with the server on their organization's private network.
Creates a virtual point-to-point link between two computers on the WAN.
Network Policy Server (NPS)
Set of rule to control network access.
User must meet conditions of a connection request policy and network policy.
Request policy includes types of access, time of access, and which authentication protocols are available.
Can be simple as specifying that particular user group has access.
Routing Information Protocol (RIP)
Dynamic routing protocol that uses hop count as a routing metric to find the best path between the source and the destination network.
Distance-vector routing protocol that has an AD value of 120 and works on the application layer of the OSI model.
RIP prevents routing loops by implementing a limit on the number of hops allowed in a path from source to destination.
Network Address Translation (NAT)
Enables private IP networks that use unregistered IP addresses to connect to the Internet.
Translates the private (not globally unique) addresses in the internal network into legal addresses, before packets are forwarded to another network.
Provides additional security by effectively hiding the entire internal network behind that address.
NAT allows a single device, such as a router, to act as an agent between the Internet (or public network) and a local network (or private network), which means that only a single unique IP address is required to represent an entire group of computers to anything outside their network.
