ASSURE
Assure is a process teachers use to design and develop the most appropriate learning environment for their students. It is a widely used method, especially in lesson planning. The ASSURE Model is built upon six basic steps Link Title
S-Select methods, technology, media and materials
After getting to know the class in general, as a teacher, you need to choose the most suitable learning method for students. For example, if you think that technology-oriented teaching will be better, you can transfer information with slides and movies. You can use white board, audio, computer etc. Teaching strategies such as group discussion or cooperative group work can use.
A- Analyze the Learner
At this stage, the teacher should get to know his/her class well. The teacher should know the age range of his/her class. Teachers should know general Characteristics of the learners. For example; reading skills, social background, ! learning skills and knowledge etc.
S-State Objectives
At this stage, we are looking for an answer to the question of what kind of new knowledge and skills we expect students to have gained as an outcome of learning.
Learning Outcomes are any measurable skills, abilities, knowledge or values that the student demonstrates as a result of completing a given course or class.
ABCD METHOD
A stands for Audience. Who is the target audience? (2-A students)
B stands for Behavior. What are the behaviors or performances that will be gained and demonstrated as a result of teaching?(learning colors in English.)
C stands for Condition. What are the conditions in which the learners will be expected to perform these tasks? Example : at the end of the lesson.
D stands for Degree. How well will learners know and be able to apply what is described?
Learning Outcome Statements can be written using the ABCD (audience, behavior, condition, and degree) method.
Learning Outcome: 2-A grade students will know colors in English very well.
1-Preview the Materials
2-Practice the Presentation
3-Prepare the Environment
4-Present the Material
5-Provide the Learning Experience
R-Require learner participation.
Students learn best when they are actively involved in the learning experience. So at this step, we should try to get each student to participate in the lesson.
E-Evaluate and Revise
This last step of ASSURE is so important whether it is useful to use those techniques or not. In your evaluation should focus on feedback from your students. Was their experience enough, was it effective. According to the answers to the questions, the teacher can change the course process or continue it exactly.
U-Utilize Technology, Media, and Materials
This step making a plan as to how you will utilize the technology, media and materials that you have selected. To get maximum learning impact from your presentation, you must follow certain utilization procedures. This is “five p’s” process
