EXPOSURE TO SUN
HARMFUL EFFECTS
-
Pre-cancerous (actinic keratosis) and cancerous (basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma and melanoma)
-
-
Elastosis -- the destruction of the elastic and collagen tissue (causing lines, wrinkles and sagging skin)
-
Skin cancer is the most prevalent form of all cancers in the U.S. and the number of cases continues to rise.

Tanning is the skin's response to UV light. When UV rays reach the skin, the skin makes more melanin. Melanin is the color (pigment) that causes tanning.
ULTRAVIOLET RAYS
Ultraviolet (UV) light/rays have shorter wavelengths than visible light. Although UV waves are invisible to the human eye, some animals, such as reindeers, can see them.
Energy from the sun reaches the earth as visible, infrared, and ultraviolet (UV) rays.
