The Parable of the Wedding Banquet - part 1
By Erica 9A
reluctant guest
servant was sent to summon the guests, but they all began making excuses
needs to see the field they bought
wants to try out his new oxen
refuse to leave his wife
but not to provide adequate hospitality was a grave of discourtesy but to refuse hospitality
sent his servants to invite the under privileged people from the streets and back lanes of the city
if the invited would not come, some who perhaps never had the chance to go to a banquet would come
highways and hedges were combed to find people to enjoy the munificent hospitality of the master
joy they never expected entered the lives of many; but those who were invited missed a chance that would never return
excuses
"I have bought a field and I must go and see it" Luke 14:18
excuse of the man whom business comes first.
possible to be obsessed with the activities of the worlds that there is no time left for prayer, worship and devotion
"I have bought five yoke of oxen, and i go to examine them" Luke 14: 19
excuse of the man whose passion is novelty
has new possession and becomes obsessed with it
"I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come" Luke 14:20
this excuse is the demands of home
there is.a paradox that homes are the most important place in our lives
is it possible to take a selfish view of home
New guests of God
has a local significance
originally invited guests were the jews
they were the chosen people. Their history was moulded to accept God's son when he came into the World
after the invited refused to come, others were invited (the lames, blinds and gentiles whom the jews despised)
the gentiles stands for the sinners that found a welcoming friend in Jesus
more unexpected people are starting to come
The banquet of God
was a thoroughly jewish idea
jews believed that when the Messiah came and the new age dawned, one great event would be a banquet which all sat down
Jesus took over the idea and used it
Jesus compared the kingdom of Heaven with a feast
Jesus though that the kingdom is a happy thing
to enter the kingdom of God was as joyous a thing as going to a feast
the charge of christianity is too often
causing light, joy, and zest to be taken out of our lives
men often sees Christianity as something that's causing them something they don't wanna do
+causing them to abandon the things they wanna do
