Seven Years War
British had defeated them and seized a lot of their territory
Huge numbers of British soldiers fought in America,and the British government wanted colonies to contribute to the cost of the army.
1756-1763
No Taxation without Representation
They colonist protested they did not want to pay more taxes.
Groups like the Sons of Liberty in Boston attacked British officials and organised boycotts.
British introduced the Stamp Act and the Quartering Act in 1765
Restrictions on Trade
|The British didn't want the americans to sell there goods to anyone else.
So that they could decide the price and get it for cheap.
Britain wanted a cheap supply of raw materials.

When the Stamp Act was taken away the British imposed the Townshead Act
Boston Tea Party
British withdrew all the Townshead Acts.
Except a tax on tea imports.
