Functions: To protect a computer against viruses by identifying and removing any computer viruses found in memory, on storage media or on incoming files.

- Require less system resources than GUI
GUI:
- Easier to use because most users pick up this interface using mouse, menu and icons
- Requires more system resources because of each of he elements that need to be loaded such a s icons and fonts.

The operating system transfer the least recently used data and program instructions from RAM to the hard disk because RAM is needed for other functions.
Step 2:
The operating system transfers data and programs instructions from the hard disk to RAM when they are needed
The operating system can access a report information about various computer resources and devices for example user can monitor the processor, drive, network, and the memory usage.
