"60 minutes" and the Benghazi scandal trap
Ethical issues raised
Why did it take the F.B.I so long to relay information to "60 Minutes" delaying the truth
False and misleading information given to multiple sources
Story told on air without any proven facts or a credible source
My Reaction to unethical issues
My initial question is just how was this allowed to happened at all? As a journalists one of the first things you learn is to always check your sources.
How could a major network like CBS and "60 Minutes" even allow something like this too happen?
I think the report backfired and it looked more as an attempt to do more of a cover up.
opposing views
Who is to say that the F.B.I had the real reports in the first place?
Did CBS know the truth and got caught in an attempt trying to cover it up forcing them to come clean?
Maybe the initial reports were true
Opinions about issue
I honestly feel like there is more to this story. The fact that the reporter was still defending him after the reports came out makes me wonder why?
My honest opinion is that we will never know what is really true and what is not. The truth is that even F.B.I reports can be tainted.
Too me "60 Minutes" is completely at fault, whether the man is lying or not. They produced a story without any source, simply off of word of mouth.
How could using a balance in research and reporting tactics made a difference?
Having stronger evidence overall, whatever that might be to support your claim.
Proper research would of told the reporter he was lying initially there fore could have been questioned differently during the interview.
Always use a credible and primary source. He could of use something such as audio giving him verification as a source.
