Students who struggle with reading choose books that look like their peers, even if they can't read them.
Students lose interest in books that are too complex and have too many details within the storyline.
These struggling students enjoy reading if they can come across a book that they can read and understand easily.
Pictures have a huge influence on what they are reading, this is where I see a lot of their understanding coming from.
When a page has too many words this is intimidating and a deterrent for struggling readers.
I have seen a student choose a book with larger font but the same size book and pages. The larger print made it seem more reader friendly.
