In Sudan, the official religion is Islam, and that shapes our culture and beliefs. For example, the hijab I wear to school everyday represents my cultural identity and my modesty. I know that the Quran, the holy book of Islam, specifically says to dress modestly. I believe that dressing modestly is wearing the hijab, however, other Muslim women may have different beliefs on what the word "modesty" means to them. In my opinion, I think that wearing the hijab makes me feel like an empowered young women because I am representing my cultural identity.
