From a social standpoint, the working conditions and health related issues working as a Paraeducator might be the number one challenge when it comes to recruiting and retaining this position. As a Paraeducator, you are working with kids ages 6-21 years old who have severe, extreme disabilities in the areas of physical, learning, sensory and behavioral needs. Day to day, you may be assaulted, yelled at, sworn at by every swear word you can think of, kicked, hit, urinated on, pooped on, spit on, etc. It is an incredibly challenging (mentally and physically) position to fulfill everyday; it can be exhausting. For the health related issues, Paraeducator's may end up hurt or with a wound resulting in going to the Doctor or ER. It is very common. This plays a huge role in retaining employees who can handle these working conditions every day at their job (Chowdhury, 2021).
