Summative Assessment
Standardized test
A standardized test is a test that is given to students in a very consistent manner; meaning that the questions on the test are all the same, the time given to each student is the same, and the way in which the test is scored is the same for all students.
SAT or ACT
USA- College or University test
End-of-unit or chapter tests
Occurs at the end of a chapter or unit
Evaluates what students learn
Covers complete content areas
Assigns a grade to students’ understanding
Emphasizes the product of student learning
Formative Assessment
Final Project
Occurs throughout a chapter or unit
Improves how students learn
Covers small content areas
Monitors how students are learning
Focuses on the process of student learning
Impromptu quizzes or anonymous voting
Short comparative assessments to see how pupils are performing against their peers
Lesson exit tickets to summarise what pupils have learnt
Ask students to create a visualisation or doodle map of what they learnt
Diagnostic assessment
Diagnostic assessments provide opportunities to reflect on
pupils’ thinking, strengths, and weaknesses
Quizz
Hinge
questions
Hinge questions are often multiple choice and are most effective when
the ‘wrong’ answers are based around common misconceptions, which
may require teacher training or opportunities for collaboration
Reading
fluency scale
Teachers seeking to diagnose reading ability may use fluency scales as part of a range of
diagnostic assessments to address reading ability and progress
Quizzes can take many forms: short-answer written tasks, retrieval
activities, or targeted verbal questions. Teachers can use the information
from quizzes to fill gaps in understanding which are likely to hold pupils
back when attempting more complex tasks.

Performance assessment
Real-world scenario: students assume roles in real-world scenarios.
Authentic, complex process: scenarios reflect complex and ambiguity of real-world challenges.
Higher-order thinking: requires critical thinking, analytic reasoning, and problem solving.
Authentic performance: the ‘product’ reflects what a professional would produce.
Transparent evaluation criteria: the learning outcomes drive the creation of the task.

Assessment as learning is the ongoing self-assessment by students. Students can check how much they understand and reflect on their own learning. They can also see which areas they are strong and challenging, so they can achieve deeper understanding through consistent practice and effort.
Assessment for learning is used to improve students' performance. Project based learning or real life context explorations can be examples of the assessment for learning. Through them, students become more involved in the learning process and get motivated in what they are expected to learn. At the end of the assessment for learning, they successfully achieve the learning outcomes and implement their skills and knowledge to the task.
