based on self-interest of the workers (who will want to achieve the maximum satisfaction and minimum dissatisfaction in terms of receiving or not receiving rewards)

Mayo
Believed that employees were not just concerned about money but could be better motivated by having their social needs met
He believed that workers are best motivated by managers taking more of an interest in them, treating them as people with worthwhile opinions and realising that workers enjoy interacting together

Maslow
Believed that employees were motivated by different needs that the company had to achieve to maximise motivation
He used a triangle diagram to demonstrate each need and stated the company must target all needs starting from the bottom to the top
