The rationale
teachers’ cultural comfort zone and students’ cultural backgrounds can create a gap
similarities in social and cultural characteristics lead to similar expectations (Ryan and Cooper, 2006)

Framework on the purposes of critical reflection
Cranton, (1996): to identify the assumptions, question their meanings, and act them out
Brookfield (1995, 2004): to interpret and create new knowledge and actions based on the experiences
Shandomo: to form new knowledge constructions and new behaviors or insights
Reflection
a process of self-examination & evaluation (cf. Socrates: "an unexamined life is unworthy living")
Dewey (1933, 1938)- one aspect of learning from experience; leads
to deliberate and intentional acts, and not all teachers dare to do that.
Brookfield (2004): without reflection, teachers run the continual risk of making poor decisions and bad judgments.
