Cognitive changes that happen during late adulthood are the change of memory and problem solving. Memory changes because as adults get older, they start to take in information slower, have less working memory and find it harder to remember knowledge from long term memory (Naveh-Benjamin, 2012; Verhaeghan, 2012, as cited in Berk, 2018). This shows that memory failure increases with age, especially with tasks that require controlled strategic thinking. Problem solving is another cognitive skill that declines with age. Older adults have memory limitations which make it harder to keep all relevant information in their mind whilst making decisions for hard problems (Finucane et al., 2005, as cited in Berk, 2018). Although older adults still make effective day-to-day decisions and make faster decisions regarding their health than younger people.
