Powers
Executive
Appoints the Governors of States
Appoints Judges of Supreme and High courts
Appoints the Prime Minister
Chairman and members of the UPSC
Appoints the Attorney General
Judicial
Can pardon or reduce the sentence of a convict
Can also pardon death sentence
Legislative Powers
To summon both the Houses of Parliament
Can dissolve the Lok Sabha with the advice of the Prime MInister
Can nominate 12 member in RS and 2 Anglo-Indians in LS
Can address a joint sitting of both the Houses
Every bill requires the President's consent to become an act
Eligibility
Citizen of India
Cannot be under 35 years of age
Not holding any office of profit under the Government
Other powers
Financial
The annual budget is presented before the President
He can grant an advance from the Contingency Fund of India
All money bills have to be recommended by the President
Diplomatic
Represents India at international forums and receives ambassadors
Appoints all High Commissioners and Ambassadors
Military
He has the power to declare war on other countries
Appoints the Chiefs of the Navy, Army and Air Force
Emergency powers
War or external aggression or armed rebellion
Failure of the constitutional machinery in a state
Threat to financial stability of the country
