Godoy's relationship with France changed in response to the events of the revolution and empire.
1793 Spain joined the first coalition against France Louis XVI's execution
1795 Spain signed the Peace of Basel with France and left the coalition.
French Revolution had moved in a more moderate direction
Godoy allied with France against Great Britain
