ENTRY & CONTRACTING
1) Entry
:star:Entry is the first step in the consultation process and consists of the first contact with the client before the formal contracting process has begun.
:star:The entry process is the first stage in which the consultant becomes in touch with the social environment of the organization, including the building
relationships with members of the organization who understand that the consultant will only temporary member.
:star: The entry phase should also be seen as the first stage in a
relationships and trust-building processes, and the consultant’s actions during this stage will be considered as a symbolic of an upcoming working relationship.
2) Who is the client?

ii) Intermediate clients : those who are included in meetings or from whom data are gathered during the course of the engagement
iii) The primary client : who has responsibility for the problems being addressed by the consultant. Primary customers are generally those who pay for consulting services.
iv) Unwitting clients : or intervention but may not be aware of it engagement activity or it will worry them.
v) Indirect clients: are not known to the consultant but are aware that they are internal stakeholders results
vi) The ultimate client : consists of a larger system or organization, ”or any other group that the consultant cares about and the welfare of whom must be considered
3) Contracting
- Contracting is the process of developing an agreement with a client on the work to be performed.
- It is a very important time when communicating about the client-consultant relationship is of interest to both the client and the change agent/consultant.
- Both parties are interested in discussing mutual expectations, clarifying roles, and setting expectations about the work to be done by both parties.
- It also can correct (or cause) misunderstandings among both parties.

- Contracting involves understanding the client’s perception of the situation or problem. the clients would describe the issue or prob. in a general or specific way
- In contracting both parties could Elicit mutual “wants” and expectations at the end of the project
- It is also important in contracting phase, in which both parties Defines what is success to both parties
- It is not limited to only one time event.

7) Two paths
Engagement is more likely to fail when:
- Lack of client involvement
- Unclear desired outcomes
- Too much depends on the consultant's skills, not the organ. obj
- Lack of time and motivation
- Unwilling to solve the tough issues
Engagement is more likely to success when
- Everyone agree on the obj and purpose of the project
- The organization is ready to change
- Both parties explore and agree on mutual needs
- Both parties deal with the problem
8) Recontracting
- Re -contracting in this sense is an implicit assessment
and renegotiations that take place at each stage. In addition,
re-contracting can be done explicitly.
