Parable of the wedding banquet Part 1
The Parable of the wedding banquet
The king told the servant to call the invited people to join the banquet
No one came, they are busy with their own stuff, they rejected the invitation, even killed the king's servant
The king killed the murderers and burn down the city
The king then ask the servant to invite the people on the streets, the good and bad
The king saw a person without a wedding shirt, immediately kicked him out.
The kingdom of God is like a king who gave a wedding banquet to his son
The reluctant guest
When the banquet started, the servant are sent to summon the guest, but they all make excuses.
One had bought a new field, One had new Oxen, and one had a married wife, so they refuse to come
The king sent the servant to call the under privileged to come to the banquet
If the invited don't come, then they will miss a chance that would never be returned
The invited don't come, so maybe some people who never came to a banquet must have a chance
The banquet of God
The idea of a great wedding banquet is given by God, and is a Jewish Idea
The Jews believe that the messiah will come and there will be a time where they would all sit down in a banquet
Jesus used this idea, and it is extremely significant
Jesus compared the kingdom of Heaven to a feast, and feast is a happy time, which means that going to the kingdom of Heaven will be happy
Many time we feel that being a Christian is hard, we have to do things that we don't like, and cannot do things that we like
The New Guest of God
The originally invited guest are the Jews
They were the chosen people, but they are not able to recognise God's son when he came to the world
This means that the Jews refuse the invitation, so now other people take their reserved seat
The poor people are brought in, they represents sinners who found Jesus a welcoming friend
When there is still room, the people from the streets are invited, they represent the gentiles
The invitation was given to the Jews, but they rejected it, so it is given to the gentiles, whom the Jews hate
The city of God is big, A wall is 12,000 furlongs, and has an area of 2,250,000 miles
The kingdom of God is so big that there is room for every man from every nation.
Excuses
The parable tells us that the invited guest all make excuses
The first Man
He said “I have bought a field and I must go out and see it”
This is an excuse to whom business comes first
It is possible that we are so busy with things that we don't have time for prayer, worship and devotion
That is why there is Sunday, Sunday is the day to praise and worship God.
The man has body, mind and soul, if man only thinks of material things, he will live a life missing something
We must make sure that God and Business are BOTH not Forgoten
The second man
He said “I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I need to go to examine them”
This is excuse of a man whose passion is novelty
The moment he has a new possession, he is obsessed with it
There are people who when the get something new, it gets everything out of their mind
Example, some people go to church, then they get something new, then they immediately don't go to church again for it
New things are attractive, but we must hold ourself to not get obsessed with it
New things is good, but we must not let them interfere with our praise and worship with God
The third man
He said, “I have married a wife, and therefore I
cannot come”
This excuse is the demand for home
It is true that our house is the most important place
But it is possible to think our house is just for our convenience
