Define Academic Writing
It is writing produced in college invironment.
When you are writing about a certain subject like math for instance, you are explaining what it is your are saying and providing your proof with it. The proof is for what your professor has said to you.
Difference Between High School riding and College Writing
College writing has to be thought out and developed well and they have to be clear in what the objective is or what the paper is supposed to be about as well.
High school isn’t really big on a certain style, as long as you get your points across in the paper then it will be accepted.
Detail is important in college you have to clearly get your points across and diccuss the topic of what you are writing as well.
In high school the teachers don’t really worry about how well your essay is developed. They don’t give you enough time to develop a r]well written essay.
MLA is the main writing style in college. If you use any other style beside MLA most of the teacher wont except the essay.
The different types of college papers
Summarize: write the main idea in your words and make to where the reader can understand what you are saying.
Analyze: break down your event or something that has happened and explain what does have in common with the other events and how do they interact.
Classify: Separate the objects from each other and group the objects that have the same features or characteristics.
Synthesize: Take what you have found in your sources online and combine what you have found all together.
Compare/Contrast: discuss the differences between two or more things and what makes them different and similar.
Define: Describe a word or something else saying what it does or what use does it have.
Argue: You are making a claim about this specific topic or thing and you have to back yourself up with using evidence.
What the Instructors expect from student writing
Doing the assignments in the correct format
They expect you to participate
They expect you to know what is required of you
If you need help, they expect you to ask for it.
