Keeping animals in zoos
Benefits
economic profits
many huge cooperations iike Sungroup, Vingroup chose invest their money into building massive zoos as tourist attractions and profited a lot from these facilities every year
zoos has always played a big role in being a place for tourist in many countries for centuries, being a thing for entertainment
education
school trips and normal people visiting zoos to observe animals for educational purposes are actually very common all over the world
especially school field trips to the zoo, expecting their students to learn from observing and gaining informations while visiting
professional scientists and researchers mainly also work at zoos, observing and learning deeper information on these animals that are secured and kept inside a man-made environment would be more safe as well as convenient for them
preservation
many animals living in the wild such as rhinos, white elephants, pandas,... are listed as endangered species, some became endangered as a result of human activities and maximum exploitation but some simply struggles to survive in the wild
=> as a results of many species becoming extremely endangered and threatened in the wild, zoos became a place to preserve and continuously try to breed with the hope of expanding the population
Drawbacks
lack of freedom
living in a such packed and small environment, these animals can't freely run and do whatever it wants like an animal should be , it limits all of their will to explore, run and simply be a wild animal
=> this can result in distress and uncomfortable situations for the animal knowing that it'll probably be living here and not getting back into the wild anytime soon
losing natural senses
an artificial environment created by humans would limit the animal natural senses to hunt, run, detect dangers and they would loose all their natural skills
For example, zookeepers just give food to them straight anytime when they're hungry (they get food without having to hunt or find it themselves) => this would results in loosing their natural born senses to hunt and be a wild animal in general
poor living conditions
being a man-made environment trying to mimic the real natural habitat of a specific species, zoos will never be as precise and a 100 percent identical to the real environment
=> this can easily results in the uncomfortable and unfamiliar living conditions causing the animal to act different or to never be at ease
ethical problems
portrayed in many religions and morality stories as a guidance for us humans to be equal and treat every thing around us fairly and cause no harm and negative influences to none
by striping aways these animals freedom, keeping them in an opposite situations and purposes as they were given in the first place by the man above is considered morally wrong for us to do
