Because of Total War, which meant all the men that could were at war fighting, the governments turned to women for help. Women had jobs in factories, shops, and offices. Women built tanks, paved streets, plowed fields, and ran hospitals. They kept the troops stocked up with food, clothing, and weapons.
Even though most women left the work force when the war ended the fact that they ran everything well the men were away for years changed the way that people saw women. They now knew women could do a lot more than they thought.
