The Legacy of The War
Q - What strategies new to World War l probably contributed to the destruction of homes, villages and farms?
A - The way they fought contributed to it. When they built trenches it was hard for homes to develop. Especially where theres was a stretch of trenches for 500 miles.

NOTES: - Tensions had been brewing throughout Europe for years before WW1 actually broke out.
- The alliances of multiple parties had existed for years (Europe, Ottoman Empire, etc.) But in the Balkans the political instability ruined all of these agreements.
-The War was sparked by the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. This was because anyone and everyone was waiting for something to happen -Many countries around the world blamed Serbia's government for the attack, hoping to use it as justification for Serbias nationalism
- With the Schlieffen Plan, Germany began fighting WW1 on 2 fronts. Invading France through Belgium and Russia through the east
- In the first battle of WW1 the Germans used siege cannons (or just a cannon). All they left was death and destruction

War Affects the World
The allies were trying to defeat the central powers piece by piece. They first wanted the Dardanelles. They wanted this because it was the gateway to the Ottoman empires capital. By taking over this part of the Ottoman Empire they could easily take over the Turks and have a supply chain to Russia
The allies did not end up being successful with their plan. Their campaign failed and they evacuated before they would be captured. They suffered about 250,000 casualties total.

In 1917, another German action pushed the United States closer to war. Officials intercepted a telegram written by Germany’s foreign secretary, Arthur Zimmermann, stating that Germany would help Mexico “reconquer” the land it had lost to the United States if Mexico would ally itself with Germany.

America’s economic ties with the Allies were far stronger than those with the Central Powers. America ended up choosing to join the Allies since Germany had already proven to be against America.
On April 2, 1917, President Wilson asked Congress to declare war on Germany.
