Relative size: It's how we can't see the sun when the moon is blocking the sun even though the moon is smaller than the sun.
A question I have is that if you can't hear sound in space then how would astronaut communicate.
If the moon can fully block the sun then does that mean that it will be totally dark on earth when that happens.
Eclipse
This picture is not drawn to scale, but helps you to compare the relative sizes of Earth, the sun, and the moon. What is the biggest object?
The biggest one is the sun.
A solar eclipse happens when the sun is completely blocked by the moon. How could that be possible if the sun is so much larger?
It can be possible because the moon is farther to the sun, for example even if you are a little boy and you try to block someone from seeing an adult you can do that from standing in front of him and from an angle you can’t see the adult.
How often does this phenomenon (solar eclipse) occur?
It occurs about 18 months.
How do the motions of the earth, sun, and moon make this possible?
When the sun, moon and earth align together then it is possible.
Season
Does the Earth stay in one place throughout the year? If not, describe its motion and location in the solar system.
The earth does not stay in place, what the earth does is it rotates on its own and it orbits around the sun.
How does this create seasons?
Dependending on the tilt of the earth if you are closer to the sun then it’s summer but if you are farther than it’s winter.
Why does the angle of the sun at noon seem to change at different months throughout the year?
Because the earth is tilted and on different places of the orbit the sun will be at different places.
What do you notice about the angle of Earth?
It is tilted a little bit and when it orbits then it will also rotate by itself sideways.
How do you think this affects the seasons in different hemispheres of the world?
When it’s summer time in your country it might not be summer in other places. So it depends on the tilt of the earth. And the position of the earth.
Changing Stars in the Sky
Take a look at the image. On a summer night, what stars are visible? Why do you think those are the ones that are visible?
Some are visible and some aren’t because some are blocked by pollution while other stars' light might be blocked by the light on earth.
Why wouldn’t you be able to see Orion and Canis Major on a summer night?
Because during summer the earth would not be able to see the stars cause the earth is not next to the star.
Can this phenomenon be explained by the rotation of Earth on its axis or the rotation of Earth around the sun? Explain.
Yes, because the rotation of earth by itself can prove that you face a different direction every day and it’s not everyday that you can see the stars. And the rotation around the sun can show that the earth is not always next to the stars.
The constellation model experiment
We made a model with the constellations you can see in different season and it turns out in Summer you can see Sagittarius Lyra and Hercules. And in winter you can see Orion and Canis Major. As for spring you can see Leo and Virgo. And at fall you can see Andromeda and Pegasus.
Scale Model
Scale planets- In order for us to make scale planets we had to divide all the diameters of the planets by 2000 so that we can fit it in a room.
Scale distance- So the distance has to be perfectly measured and we measure by the scale proportion of AU's so every AU will be divided by ten and then all you got to do is to turn AU to cm and your done.
Au- The definition of AU is the distance from the sun to the earth. Which is approximately 150 million kilometers. This is used to measure the distance of the space because it is much easier or else the digit would be far too big but with AU the digit will be much less.
How Planets were formed
When Planets are formed they all keep on swirling because of a force and we haven't learned about that force yet but that force will keep the planet from stopping or floating away.
Planets are formed by swirling like the toy we play when we were young and when it forms it will keep on swirling around the sun because of gravity.
What does gravity do
Another thing that gravity does is that it will keep all the planets to keep on spinning it's like tying a line to a sheep on a pole and it will keep on going around and around and if there is force and in space it will just go round and round.
Gravity does a lot in our solar system and one thing it does is that it helps keep all the planets together and without gravity all the planets will float away.
The magnetic field
What can do with magnetic force: We can use it by attire ting thing or making protective magnetic shield and with magnetic force we can also do a lot of advanced technologies like magnetic trains.
How can we detect magnetic force: We can detect magnetic force by using other magnets to see if it is drawn to the field or use iron dust to see where they gets sucked and then you can then detect that there are magnetic field or not.
What are magnetic field : Magnetic fields are a force that can draw or repeal other things with magnetic force or some kinds of metals like iron.
The magnetic field around the telescope
With a magnetic shield we can also use this to avoid rocks or other interference to attack the telescope.
What is solar wind: Solar wind is a wind that carries harmful substance and usually made up my electrons and neutrons that can cause harm
With a protective shield around the telescope we can use this to protect the telescope from solar wind so it won't be harmed.
Magnets and Electro magnets.
Electro magnet can be adjusted by the voltage in side of the battery but you can also increase or decrease it by the number of coils. And a way to change the polarity of an electro magnet is by flipping the side of the voltage.
Difference between electromagnet and Bar magnet is that for bar magnet there is only one way to have higher magnetic force but for an electromagnet there are two ways. And as for polarity the way to change the polarity of a bar magnet is by simply flipping it but for a electro magnet you can c change the polarity by flipping where the voltage is.
With normal magnets you can only make then both attract each other by using different poles on each of them. With bar magnets the only way that you can increase the power is by getting a magnet with stronger pull
