Philippines
After Spain surrendered at San Juan and Kettle Hills, US gains respect and also Philippines. The Philippines wanted Independence and fought for their freedom against the US. Fighting begins in 1899 and ends in 1902 resulting in 4,234 Americans killed, and 600,000 Filipinos killed. Philippines wouldn't gain freedom until July 4, 1946.
For Imperialism: Wanted to expand business interests, military needed ports for navy and most believed that US needed to expand to survive
Anti-Imperialist: Many believed that expanding into other countries would cause wars and believed that wars would be expensive. They also believe that human conditions during wars would not be good.
