Synthesis

Treatment

Social Relationships

Impact

They had awful clothes, barely any

Some masters were helpful and kind

They had very small portions of food

Slaves were whipped till they bled for any misdemeanor

The treatment made the slaves want freedom even more causing them to rebel or run away

Slaves families and relationships were ripped apart

Slaveowners had a benifit from the slaves because the plantation was run by them instead of them having to work hard and run it themselves.

Fredrick became close with poor white boys on the side of the street because he had no other slaves in is house.

Slaves were kind to each other and most of them became friends if they worked upon the same plantation. They acted as each others family since their own was ripped apart.

Other former slaves or free blacks were kind and helpful to slaves that have run away

Minimal food causes starvation and minimal clothing can cause disease and sickness

CONS:

PROS:

This book was very detailed. It even included disturbing events with language to set a picture in your mind.

It was a short book, even though it was someones life span he took just the important details and made sure they were incorporated instead of even single thing that happened to him, slaves probably had the most filled life and yet he still managed to keep his book concise and educational and interesting

Dates and times were nice to keep track of what point of slavery the events took place in

There were certain points that were kinda slow and boring but it is an autobiography so there is no way to really make it more interesting than what actually happened unless you lie

Too many characters, Many left without good descriptions and some even without a name

Oppresive christianity

Since fredrick Douglass has to learn to read and write by himself some of the text is confusing and hard to read.
