state of nature is the state of war. every man is enemy to every man. no culture of the earth, no navigation nor use of any of the commodities imported by sea, no instruments of removing an moving things, no knowledge of the face of the earth, no arts, no letters, no society. continual fear and danger of violent death, and the life of man in the natural condition. solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, short.
it may seem strange to man that nature should thus disassociate. god is the creator of nature. human beings are the natural products of divine creation. god has created us in a way that our natural lives are lives in which we find ourselves in a condition of war.
does he not there as much accuse mankind by his actions as I do by my word? but neither of us accuse man's nature in it. the desires and other passions of man are no sin. so the natural condition implies that human beings are natural wicked and morally sinful (<- wrong!!)
no more are the actions that proceed so they know a law that forbids then which laws be made they cannot know. nor can any law be made until they have agreed. without law no attribution of sin or wickedness, but no law without a lawmaker. ad the lawmaker can only exist if the plurality of human beings can agree to recognize someone as lawmaker
