What is a part of the speech?
It is the way we categorice English words, there are a total of a basic part or "word classes". These parts will help you analyze and understand sentences and texts.
What are the parts of the speech?
Verb: action or state
Example words:
to be, to have, to eat, to run, to read, to play
Example sentences:

smart

eat
apples every day
Noun: thing or person
Example words:
dog, cat, school, girl, Medellín, kid, plant, Sofia
Example sentences:
We live in
Medellín
This is my
dog
Adjective: describes a noun
Example sentences:
The students are very
smart
The sun is very
bright
Example words:
ugly, red, soft, hard, sharp, cold, hot, good
Determiner: limits or quantifies nouns
Example words:
a/an, the, some many, few, numbers (1, 2, 3...)
Example sentences:
She has

Adverb: describes a verb, adjective or adverb
Example words:
quickly, loudly, silently, highly, rarely, really, very

Pronoun: replaces a noun
Example words:
I, you, she, he, it, they, we

Preposition: links a noun to another word
Example words:
at, to on, in, after, before, but

Conjunction: joins clauses or sentences or words
Example words:
for, but, nor, so, for

am I staying home.
Interjection: short exclamation, sometimes inserted into a sentence
Example words:
Wow! Eww! So! Yeah!

Excuse me!
