Creative products: semiotic codes and material base
Semiotic codes: highlight the primacy of a creative product´s symbolic nature and give meaning to their work and sahpe how audiences interpret it.
Material base: includes technologies and and socio technical systems that enable the production and consumption of creative products, is diverse.
These two elicits aesthetic responses from audiences that drive choices about what creative products to purchase.
Four drivers of change in creative prodcuts and creative industries
Demand: and exogenous pull of change when consumers have purchasing power and organization´s markets expand, ramping up production adn cosnumption.
Technology: transforms the material base of creative products, altering processes of production and consumption.
Public policy: shifts over time and drives change, they´re designed to value creative products.
Globalization: the liberation of trade and investment that moves money, people, products, technologies and ideas across nations.
A typology of change in the CCI
Stylized types:
Preserved: slow change in semiotic codes and material base.
Prototypical organizations that seek to preserve SC and the MB tend to rely more on the State policy, they also desire to deepen the quality of extant MB and the knoledge to maintain it.
Ideate: fast change in SC but slow changes in MB.
New combinations and recombinationsof existing semiotic elements, these may triggereddisputes over appropriateness of labels given the stability of the material product. they´re centred on entrepreneurs.
Transform: fast change in MB but slow in SC.
With new technologies older ones become obsolete. Audiences expectations work within accepted genres.Entreteiment companies focus on smaller budget. Hybridizing benefits of globalization are challenging in mass markets. Goverment policy differences impede effective market development
Recreate: fast change in the SC and in the MB.
These CCI´s are very dynamic abd their artistic and material properties are tightly coupled such that expressing new SC drives new material innovations and vice versa.
