- - - - One Policy was the Big Stick Ideology which was made to make a route from the caribbean to the pacific while cutting through Central America. This had the added bonus of increasing army power with the marines but came at a 40 million dollar cost when purchasing the panama route
      - Country Involvement: Roosevelt helped Japan when they had problems and was also able to help get a peace treaty in the midst of the Russo-Japanese war
      - Roosevelt had a very important part in changing the Monroe Doctrine to help the US which led to the United States military helping Latin America against Europe

        William Mckinley wanted to annex Hawaii for numerous reasons such as using it to defend the pacific coast and helping in expanding trade with Asia. To justify this further, Mckinley went on to talk about how it was just as if not more important to obtain than california and that it was a part of the american people's manifest destiny to annex Hawaii

        Right after the war with Spain, there was an insurgency in the Philippines. In Response, McKinley sent numerous american army men to fight in a war that ended with many casualties

        During 1895, Cubans started to revolt over Spain's oppresive rule over them. This attracted the attention of numerous American citizens who spoke out in hopes of being able to help the Cuban Nationalists in their endeavors. In response, McKinley started to pressure Spain throughout 1897 into a agreeable result. Spain let the Cubans function on their own in limited ways in November of that year and closed camps however, certain people still protested. McKinley then sent out a ship to show that they still cared about relations with Spain however, when the ship exploded, spain was blamed and war was declared in the name of also protecting Cuba's right to not be ruled by spain. Eventually, the US and Spain reached an agreement where Cuba was under the offical protection of the United States as its own country

        The policy itself was to not help nations that did not have democratic governments. Therefore, if anyone needed help from the US as one of the strongest and best forces, they would have to rely on a democratic government
