Causes
Foreign pressure
The West encountered Japan with big boats and heavy machinery and the Japanese wanted to fight back but couldn't as at the time they had swords
Economic problems
There was a lot of politcal unsustainabiliy which led to the people struggling as the Samurai had to depend on the lower classes to survive which ended up leading to revolts
Samurai revolts
A lot of people found out about the Meiji revolution and were happy but the samurai who helped established the government were quickly abolished as they needed equality with all the classes
