List of Component in Computer
Storage
Hard Disk Drive
(HDD)
A traditional storage device which uses mechanical platters and a moving read/write head to access data
Solid State Drive
(SSD)
Newer, faster type of device that stores data on instantly-accessible memory chips
Difference between SSD and HDD
Price: SSD is more expensive than HDD
Performance improvement: SSD > HDD
Speed difference for SSD is higher than HDD, more obvious when performing certain tasks such as sequential read/write operations.
Random-Access Memory
(RAM)
A form of computer memory that can be read and changed in any order
Store working data and machine code
The component that determines the performance of the computer
Central Processing Unit
(CPU)
Also known as Processor
Electronic circuitry that executes instructions that makes up a computer program.
Performs basic arithmetic, logic, controlling, and input/output (I/O) operations instructed by program
Graphics Processing Unit
(GPU)
Designed to accelerate the rendering of 3D graphics
Designed for parallel processing
Used for rendering videos and graphics
Progress to create more visual effects and realistic scenes with advanced lighting and shadowing technique
Motherboard
A Printed Circuit Board (PCB)
Holds and allows communication between crucial electronic components of a system like CPU and RAM
PC Case
The foundation of building the heart of the PC, Personal Computer
Power Supply Unit
(PSU)
Convert AC to DC to supply power to the PC component
CPU Cooling Unit
Function
Prevent damage to CPU due to overheating and maximize performance
Absorb heat from the CPU and redistribute it away from the hardware.
Type of CPU Cooling Unit
Liquid Cooling CPU Cooler
Air Cooling CPU Cooler
Tips when/before installing the components
Motherboard
Prepare your workspace
Clean your workspace. Exposed mechanical component are sensitive to particles in the environment
Gather your tools
Philip head screwdriver
tweezers
small zip ties
Central Processing Unit (CPU)
Be very careful
For example, Ryzen processor. If you accidentally bend its pin, it may damage our CPU
Add a dot of thermal paste
Help CPU to have a properly cooling
Random Access Memory(RAM)
Hear a "click" sound
While installing/pressing into the slots, you need to hear a "click" sound which means it is correctly inserted
Remove any dust from the memory slots
Blasting the area with compressed air or by vacuuming gently
Make sure that the memory module is correctly oriented
Placing Ram in the incorrect slot could result in some performance degradation
Storage
Add it diagonally
You may give it a firm push then you can find the proper angle easily.
Power Supply
Do research on your motherboard model
Ground yourself
To prevent you from accidentally damaging the internal component of your pc with static electricity.
Cooling System
Liquid coolling is better than air cooling
Higher level of efficiency
Less noise
Takes up less space than fans
Fans
Be mindful of the noise level
Use fewer fans to avoid fans can generate a buzz
Use proper fan positioning
If you have vents at the top, the fans should be placed as exhaust fans because the hot air will rise
Graphic Card
Things that you need to look in a graphic card
Amount of the memory
Form factor of your pc (desktop/laptop)
Discrete GPU / Integrated graphic card
Power connectors
Thermal Design Power (TDP)
Brand of components
Casing
NZXT H700i (ATX)
Motherboard
Gigabyte x570 AORUS ULTRA
CPU
AMD RYZEN 9 5950X 16Core
RAM
G.SKILL TRIDENT 16GB
SSD
ADATA XPG M2 512GB
PSU
Corsair RM850
CPU Cooler
NZXT Kraken (Liquid Cooling)
GPU
EVGA GeForce RTX3090
