ELEMENT INCLUDED IN THE SYSTEM THEORY
Environment
Anything outside political system that influence input and output. Example: changes in IT, social, demography, economy.
The view of organizations as open social systems that must interact with their environments in order to survive is known as the systems theory approach.
Organizations depend on their environments for several essential resources: customers who purchase the product or service, suppliers who provide materials, employees who provide labor or management, shareholders who invest, and governments that regulate.
public relations’ essential role is to help organizations adjust and adapt to changes in an organization’s environment.
Political system (black box)
Black box theory treats the internal considerations of the political world as virtually unknowable -- they're in a black box. The box is "black" because it is impossible to understand what's inside the box without being a part of the system.
The inputs are the pressures put on the system and on politicians while the outputs are the results, such as new laws, changes in policies or the changing behaviors of legislators.
This is akin to the idea of being a "political insider." Without that firsthand knowledge, politics remains a mystery, or at best a cover-up for government's true actions. Only by opening or exposing the box can the true nature of political systems be known.
The black box theory of politics states that the actions of political parties, lobbyists and other government players such as legislators and state governors is most effectively studied by looking at the "inputs" and "outputs" of the political system.
Government institutions and political process.
Input
Maintenance inputs (energic imports that sustain system)
Production inputs (energic imports which are processed to yield a productive outcome)
Come from the environment, comprises of demand/support (example: when people pay tax, obey regulations/decisions made by government).
Feedback
Public responses towards output.
Information about a reaction to a product.
Used as basis for improvement.
Can be:
i) positive feedback - move from status quo
ii) negative feedback - return to status quo
Output
Exit or change exiting the system
System returns the product to the environment.
Decisions/laws/rules = policy.
