The Reluctant Time Traveller
My Father
I remember when you were such a little boy, it only seemed like yesterday.
Sure Dad.
I just smiled & it didn't really mean much.
I used to think, Gee that was 15 years ago!
Which to me, was a lifetime!!
How could it only seem like yesterday?!
Well the years have rolled by and now I'm a little older, but
I remember my 20's, doesn't seem like that long ago.
Spending money
Having fun
No responsibility
Remember my 30's, they were literally just gone.
Started a family
Lots of responsibility
Wake up call
It won't be long & I'll be remembering my 40's
I don't know about you, but it feels like, as I've gotten older, the years are speeding up?

Basic story
Earth is running out of food, we need a new planet.
Hero needs to fly the rocket.
Tells his 10yr old daughter he's not sure when he'll be back.
2 yrs to Saturn
Thru the wormhole to check the first planet.
Find it's closer to a blackhole than they thought.
Time moves differently - they think 1 hr = 7 yrs
Plan:
Straight down, grab the data & straight back
Que action sequence & they take longer than expected.
They return to find their 1.5 hr trip has actually been 23 years, 4 mths & 8 days.
Hero checks his messages from Earth t find his daughter is now his age.....
It got me thinking....In the blink of an eye, she was all grown up.
The words of my father struck me....
It only seemed like yesterday you were a little boy
It's not suppose to happen that fast!
So what now?
I still watch Netflix, but I make sure I watch it with the kids.
Every day I try and engage with my family in some small way.
A walk around the block.
A cuddle on the couch.
A wrestle on the floor.
An embrace with my wife.
I'm still spending my time asset,
But now, it's a lot more deliberate.
So now when I look back,
Years ago may only seem like just yesterday,
OR time still may be gone in the blink of an eye
But now, I'm making sure there are a lot of memories in those blinks.
So I asked myself the question: How am I spending my time?
Time is an asset
You don't get any more
And it's spent at the same rate for everyone
I know I'm guilty of moving through time on auto-pilot.
Staying up late binging on Netflix
Letting my kids spend the day on their tablets
Getting sucked into my computer, but achieving nothing.
Not engaging with my family.
Now let me ask you,
Are you guilty of similar?
