Culture and customs
Turkey has a diverese culture with a blend of the Oğuz Turkic and Anatolian,Western culture, and Ottaman.
When two men meet for the first time they shake hands and sustain direct eye contact. If the handshake is firm it would be appropriate. If they are close freinds or family then hugs and pats on the back are more likely to happen. Other men might even kiss each other on the cheek. and some might make their temples touch.
When two women meet for the first time a light handshake, or if they know each other very well they will kiss each other and on the cheek.
When men meet women it is more dependent on what the women does if they offer a hand then you shake lightly or if they offer their cheek then you kiss each other on the cheek but that might not happen depending on what they believe. If none is offered then a polite hello is ideal.
