It must be present for the CPU to perform any function
It contains the running programs and the data they operate on
Information can be transferred very quickly

Secondary memory
Secondary memory requires the computer to use its input / output channels to access information
It is used for long-tern storage of persistent information
Greater capacity than primary memory
But it´s much slower
